To raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer.
This little girl's hair was colored against her will, she was trying to get out if it with full force! But her mother and little sister insisted and they managed to get a few colored streaks in her hair - I managed to get a shot of her when they walked away... clinging to mother's jeans!
By shaving your head or spraying your hair a multitude of colours for a donation, South Africans helped to raise funds that will be used for youth and family prevention and support programmes run by the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) nation-wide.

I do not like the idea that this little girl was forced against her will to have her hair died. That is carrying the idea of charity and solidarity too far. What about a human being's free will?

@givethemhell: I totally agree... I think it had more to do with the mother's attitude... which I think she must change. If you can force a child in front of hundreds of people to do something she does not want to do, I wonder how she 'runs' the child's life at home! But then again, its their journey not ours, I wish the girl good luck!
She doesn't look happy at all and you have captured that expression well.

The funny thing is that by the time she becomes a teenager, it will be her mother who will likely be demonstrating against her choice of hair colour and style no doubt....

I love the capture of sadness... Too bad we try to make our kids do many things that they don't understand. At least she did shave her beautiful hair off...

nice photo!

It's an excellent cause, and a great 'candid' moment, but like others I agree that one shouldn't force a child into it...it shows disrespect and intrude on a child's boundary

givethemhell and Michael sum up perfectly what I was going to write. My prayers go out for this little girl... Some people should take classes on how to be parents before they start a family.

The expression you captured on her face is priceless. Good timing!

A good cause for sure; but, the look on the little girl's face indicates here rights were violated.

@Graham Russon: Thanks Graham!
I so agree with the expressions voiced above about the girl having her hair colored against her will. Especially with how traumatic it can be at such a young age. She's supposed to trust her mother and sister and not fear them should something else traumatic happen in the future.

@Steven: Steven, let me tell you this... they might have thought it's a great joke BUT if I quote the following I talk about experience... "People will forget what you said.... but they will NEVER forget how u made them feel"! Feelings are so powerfull and stay with us forever - we don't have a choice. I also agree that her trust in mother & sister was damaged... especially at this age. Thanks for your lovely comment.
Beautiful girl in a same shot! Great light!
